Morning guys,Well went to UCL for a Colonoscopy for whtat I thought was to confirm piles! Well that was confired very quickly but on looking the found a large Poltp. have only just realised its 4 am and I woke and it hit me what went on yesterday. I am not sure if they biopsied or took it out? Have to wait 2 weeks for biopsy result and am scared. Any information would be good. cheers Paul

Hi paul a polyp is a growth origonating from the mucosal tissue in the colon(you can also get them in other parts of the body like the nose.) They are usually benign but are always removed because of the chance of them turning nasty further down the line.If they grow big enough they will cause obstruction.Biopsy is standard procedure in all polyps. Its not major surgery and it will be better out than in,though i doubt you need any more to worry about now. Good luck liz Love liz Never take your eye off the ball it may just smack you in the mouth

Paul, not to worry! Polyps are removed when detected during a colonoscopy - the doc doesn't leave them there even if they are benign because they have the potential to become cancerous later. I had a colonoscopy a few years ago where two polyps were removed; neither was cancerous. The doc told me that everyone over forty had at least one or two benign polpys, but in looking it up to respond to you, I found a slightly different response. This is from the Mayo Clinic website: "As many as 30 percent of middle-aged and older adults have one or more colon polyps — a small clump of cells that forms on the colon lining. Although the great majority of colon polyps are harmless, some may become cancerous over time. Anyone can develop colon polyps, but you're at higher risk if you are 50 or older, are overweight or a smoker, eat a high-fat, low-fiber diet, or have a personal or family history of colon polyps or colon cancer." Click on the link for more info. Colon Polyps This is soooo common! We've all got enough to worry about without this too. Take care, Mimi

Hi Paul, if it's not one thing it's another. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about and it'll be all clear, but that doesn't stop the worry does it. 4am will always be a crap time to think about problems but we've all done it. Hang in there. Hope your first day OTJ was successful. What a relief to have most of this over and to be back at work. When I had the colonoscopy and the polyps were removed, they immediately went to the lab and I got the results before I left the hospital, probably an hour later. Hope there's an easy way to take care of the 'roids without surgery - I understand that the healing time isn't pleasant. Mimi ********** The hardest years in life are those between ten and seventy.
