Hello all,
I wanted to share with you that having returned from martyns monthly check up with the ENT consultant this week, they are really pleased with the way everything is healing 8 months after martyns laryngetomy.
I had'nt taken much notice of things as we went into the hospital, but on our way out it was the most beautiful sunny afternoon. We held hands walking back to the car park and I realised how lucky I was to have a man who has come so far and is a survivor.
Take Care
Julie
Take care all.

That is great news, when going though all the treatment the lows can be very low but when you get good news the highs are very high and it is a wonderful feeling.

Well done

John

Julie I know exactly how you feel. Today we have been to the hospital for Robert's first check-up. The consultants (4 of them) examined Robert by putting a camera up his nose and down his throat and told us that there is no sign of the cancer. I have since spent the rest of the day crying with the relief of it all. I know there is still a way to go but at least we're on the right track.

Hi All

It's a great feeling to be given the "all clear" for sure! Now the task is to convince yourself that you've beaten it. Maybe easier said than done - but apart from the periodical reminders when I have to return for consultations, I believe I'm well on the way to cracking it!

So Bev, my answer is yes it does - but never completely!

Good luck today!

Pete

Good luck for today Bev, will be thinking of you.I know that from being martyns partner he also thinks that his cancer may return at any time.I have heard the word remission and having to be cancer free for 5 years.I know that each time a check up with the consultants draws near, that fear returns yet again for Martyn.
Best of luck Bev, let us know how things go

What good news for Martyn, Julie. I can't believe it is two years since I had my laryngectomy and it is only when I go through my diaries that I realise the amazing progress I have made. It takes a long time. Yesterday I had salad for te first time in years. It tasted lke caviare after all these months of mushy mash.
I have my check-up next month and as I write it I feel the tummy churning feeli ng which never really goes away!
All the best to you both

Hello Ishbel, I wish Martyn would eat salad! He must be one of the few cancer patients who has manage to put on 3 stone since his surgery. He had a NG tube in for a few months on and off because of reoccuring fistulas. I wish you well for your upcoming appointment, Im sure they always bring a certain ammount of apprehension.I kept a diary whilst Martyn was in hospital and I look through photographs that I took after surgery,it makes me think how far he has come over the last few months.
Take Care
