Following the lead of others I have now e-mailed my MP asking her to support EDM 1883. Given that Mrs. Mahon used to be a nursing auxiliary I'm hoping her support will be strong.

Just for a laugh I've also e-mailed direct to the Parliamentary Conservative Party asking to their support to the EDM.

I've tried without success to contact the Parliamentary Labour Party, so I'll keep plugging away.

Pleasant surprise in to-days post (snail mail).

Receuved a letter from my MP's office (OK supposed to be from her) confirming she'd supported EDM 1883.

Anybody what the total count is/was?

Hi Pikeman

I believe it is 84. Follow this link for more info. As this EDM was tabled during the last parliamentary session, it has now fallen. If you require further information about what EDMs are and the procedure surrounding them, you may like to look the House of Commons Information Office factsheet on this topic - Factsheet P3. You can find factsheets from the home page by clicking on this factsheets link.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes
Vinod :coffee:

Dr. Joshi, many thanks for the additional info.

I've got yp say I'm disgusted. 84 signatories out of 600+ MPs.

Of course oral cancer is not a vote winner. The current flavour of the month being HIV/AIDS - and this is not to decry the dreadful pandemic. But let's face it there are many, many other ailments killing even more people than HIV/AIDS.

But oral cancer seems to be a silent killer which people don't appreciate (is that the right word to use).

I wonder what the reaction would if the general public were faced with just what oral cancer can do. It's not just disfigurement but also the psychological effects.

Enough, as you may guess I feel quite strongly about this.
