just to let you know i went into hospital today as a day case to see if cancer has returned.they told me that they have taken some biopsies from my tongue but i wont get the results until 2nd jan thats when i next see the oncologist.just wanted to put you in the picture.love shirl xxx

Oh, Shirl,

The waiting is always the hardest part, isn't it? Nothing you can do, no speeches you can give yourself, you're just at the lab's mercy and a lot of the techs will be on vacation (holiday) over Christmas. Sigh. This is when practicing yoga or meditation comes in handy.

I have a PET/CT scan scheduled for Wednesday, just a routine check, and I'm nervous about that for no good reason. We can worry across the pond together. A friend tells me not to use the word 'worry,' so I suppose we can 'express concern for one another.' Yeah, that always works....

Hello there Shirl ,we all know this feeling only too well and it is hellish, we are saying a huge prayer that all will be well with the results in January, there is every chance it will be ok ,so try and hang on to that thought .I know we tell ourselves that and even then that feeling in our gut just keeps niggling and nothing really works to put it at bay .

Paul is due back on xmas eve as his niggles are still causing concern and we are wondering whether they are going to suggest another biopsy .If life was fair there would be no waits for these results and decisions in an ideal world but alas we have to learn to wait and wait .We are here for you Shirl at any time just to talk and discuss what ever is on your mind even if it just helps pass the days .

Your Oncologist will know how worried you are and hopefully if he gets good news earlier than expected he may just make your xmas by phoning you out the blue ,heres hoping .

So sorry to hear you are having to go through this. My surgeon told me that once you have had cancer they would always do a biopsy on anything the least little bit suspicious, just to be on the safe side, so here's hoping that it will turn out to be nothing. The waiting is always so terrifying, though, and particularly difficult at this time of the year, I should think.

again thank you all so much for your reassuring comments its appreciated especially when you all have your own problems to deal with so its so kind of you to take the time to respond to me,i love you all one minute i think maybe the big c has not come back and then i get these worrying symptoms of left side toothache and ear pain and the left side is where the cancer was,its not a very painful ache but just lately i am aware of it all the time plus this week the mucous in my throat has been tinged with blood but my husband said it could be where they took biopsies because my throat is still sore from that.i just have to wait for the 2nd of jan and i am really hoping i get the all clear because the thought of any more chemo scares me silly as i did not cope with the last lot.i did not have all the chemo i should have as i reacted so badly to it and last year altogether i spent 7 months in hospital with different things caused by the chemo and rt.anyway enough of me and my whingeing i want to wish you all a merry christmas and a very happy new year.with love my friends from shirl xxx

Hello Shirl ,have been thinking of you we are doing the same as you wondering and wondering ,Paul suffering with this terrible neuralgic pain in head and they have changed him onto Amytriptoline ( Eventually) and also another pain killer, seems to be numbing the pain but he is a bit spaced out ,hope we will manage up to my daughters for xmas even if for a few hours then i think he will going to bed .We are back to clinic xmas eve to see what they think is going on and hope they still say it is Rt side effects but feel they will need to maybe investigate this a bit further ,so u r not alone they tell u all is fine but being fine also means some pain free qaulity of life and a also peace of mind and the waiting for results and pending tests is really unbearable Shirl ,sometimes just being able to come on here and talk about it does help and is not whinging so please don't stop .Hope u manage to enjoy xmas and if u find the solution to blanking out the worry for 24 hours please get on here fast and share !!!.Positive thoughts for January 2009 Shirl, being sent your way .

sorry to hear that paul is in pain too,when does this bloody merrygo round stop i wonder?some days i get so fed up it's an effort to get out of bed,i am sure my poor hubby must be sick of seeing his wife go from a real laugh a minute girl to an old woman who always has something wrong with her.he assures me he understands but i feel sorry for him as i am just not the person i used to be.i never knew it would have had such an impact on our lives,but because of where the cancer was or is the treatments as you well know bring so many problems that you never think of.today late afternoon real pain in my tooth and ear has kicked in and its driving me crazy.i will go to the dentist tomorrow but i know they will refer me to the hospital again as they dont want to touch my mouth because of the radiotherapy so i will have to suffer all over christmas with this pain and i have 11 people for christmas dinner as i stupidly thought last christmas that this christmas i would be back to normal.it seems like one problem clears up and another rears its ugly head.but you know that too.i hope paul gets some relief from his pain.a merry christmas and a happy new year to you both.love shirl xxx

Hello Shirl .Paul is feeling the same as yourself and I like your husband do not feel sick to the back teeth with anything ,just get cross when it takes so ong to get relief or results .We were back at clinic today and they have now said they need to do scans to check head and neck area because of the continual pain ,but they say they do feel it is trigeminal due to RT side effects and have changed his medication today to try and make him less sleepy ,he can hardly keep his eyes open. We are supposed to travelling tomorrow to our daughters for xmas lunch and stay over ,we now feel we should have just had them all here then he could go and sleep when he needed .

we now have the scans to wait for and pray the new medication works ,it is so hard to get back into the saddle and live life again when the onset of RT symptoms appear and give cause for concern and the pain brings you down .But they do appear and are not always a recurrence Shirl but are debilitating and need to be sorted ,so I think we like you could have done with changing the xmas dinner situation .

Hope your facial pain is easing off Shirl .Keep in touch and I hope your day tomorrow like ours will turn out better than expected .
