Par for the course I'm afraid Terry. I managed to find energy reserve levels through my treatments and stuff but not loads. It does take it out of you though. Hagg.

Hi Terry, dont conclude you will be in pain, whatever your Docs. throw at you. We humans all have different pain thresholds & if the Medics/nursing staff are on the ball, should recognise you have pain & prescribe accordingly. Dont be afraid to ask for more if your pain increases. You will be the one feeling it, not them.
Cancer fatigue is well known to us all.www.cancerbacup.org.uk have an excellent section on Fatigue & how to cope with it, that you may like to look at. Anaesthesia, medication, depression at the Cancer diagnosis, all add to fatigue. Do you have friends & family you can muster to help you in the coming weeks, if so ,I hope you are getting them organised. I'll be thinking of you on 27th & wish you all the best. Can I ask which Hospital will be treating you? Fran |

MD Anderson here in Houston
They are supposed to be very good but i find it very sad going there Every day Hundreds of people show up The lobbys of the different treatment centers on all 10 floors and testing labs are totally packed with people waiting for hours Seeing the children is sometimes more than i can bear |

Hi Terry, I dont know about other people on the site but I didn't look into any of my treatments etc in a big way.
I kept it as a day by day thing, i.e, Got cancer, have to get better. Having RT today, wont worry about tomorrow. Operation today, see how it goes. I tried not to look to far ahead and still dont know hardly any of the medical jargon concering my cancer. Ignorance can be bliss type thing. All I focused on was that there was a demon in me that was cancer, and how I was going to kick the s**t out of it. This might not help you as I guess everyone deals with it in their on way but hang in there. All the best, Hagg. 13 years and still kicking it. Never give up your fight. |

Hi Terry,
I was stage 3 with an unknown primary. Secondary tumours had burst out of my neck lymph glands. Three years and 3 months after my last treatment I am still cancer free. I kept waiting to die! - but I didn't! Depression can be a big part of this disease. If you need chemical support do use it. All the best to you Terry. Tony K |

Hello Terry, my husband was diagnosed at Stage IV. Like Hagg, he didn't want to know how why where or when, he was just totally focused on getting better.
He was dx in March last year, he didn't have surgery because the Consutlant said it would be too radical so just Chemo and r/t. Here we are, quite unbelievably a year on and he is clear. It hasn't been all beer and skittles but we got here just the same. Hang on in and stay totally focused - and good luck. |

Terry, you are going to one of the best hospitals in the world. However, I went there with my brother's records almost 6 years ago for a 2nd opinion on a brain tumor. They confirmed the surgeon's opinion from UT Galveston Medical Center where he was an in-patient. Doc said "we are the best" "but your brother is also been treated by the best since we trained him" ........

Terry,
I think we need to inject a little optimism here. I know when you're told you have cancer it feels like the grounds opened up beneath you and you just get swept along in it all. Everyone reacts differently to their treatment, and treastment is differrent for everyone! I guess if you're expecting a rough time then anything better is a bonus right?! But even in the darkest debths of treatment, when you feel like you're gunna be stuck feeling this way forver, it DOES get better. You wont always feel so low. Make sure you communicate your fears with your team. & if you're feeling pain then they can help manage it! Its not fun. It can be brutal. But the testomanies on here prove you can get through it. I wish i'd been more prepared for the treatment. I thought it was no big deal so it knocked me for six when i was in the thick of it. I just think it's important to look forward and not getlost in the moment. Easier said than done!

Hi Terry,
This is one bit I normally give to all my friends - why worry about something that has not happened. Why do you want to be scared of something that has not yet happened. The end result may be far different from what you are thinking and getting all worked up about. Take and savor each moment that you are living and stop the worrying as life is ment to be lived and not donated away to time as the more you worry and scare yourself - its that much time you loose in what is a great life. I can say this with some pride as I have been through this and more and am still happy as a lark!!(well, most of the time). Now the ball is in your court and its upto you to decide you want to be happy or morose. We cannot control your feelings but stand by you giving you all the support possible.Everyday is a brand new day - dont waste it. Love, Ananth Live on your beliefs and strength- and you will become immortal. |
