I just came across this on the internet. It shows the areas on the tongue that have taste buds for different types of tastes. I know for me the last taste to go was sweet which is on the tip of the tongue, this was also the first to come back. Although the experts now say that all parts of the tongue can experience all sorts of tastes, my personal experience appeared to be closely linked to this diagram. Apparently the highest density of the taste buds for sweet, sour, salty and bitterness are in these areas. It appearAnybody else have the same experience? I think I'm fairly lucky that most tastes have returned, but the bitter taste seems to be over sensitive, and is very localised to the back of the tongue. Because I can now drink cider (if it has lots of ice to make it really cold) I thought I would try apple juice - but this is still horrible. I then bought some baby apple juice as I thought that might have less bitterness/sourness, but I tried a sip when I got outside of the shop, and a lady behind me commented to me that it looked as if it tasted horrible. I shudder from head to toe when I try to drink something with a bitter aftertaste. P.S. Click on the diagram of the tongue then the tastes will pop-up when you hover over the tastebuds. My liquid intake has been water and supplements for about three months.I have just started drinking warm milk.As for taste buds then my sweet ones are returning but that is all. There is no pleasure in the taste of savoury food at all.
I love ambrosia rice a dollop of raspberry jam in it.Alcohol and Fruit Juices have a very bad reaction on my mouth and tongue and are deffo a no no But I cannot complain as things are a lot better then they were a few weeks ago I am driven mad by the dry mouth and throat.I hope it eases off. Thanks for the link to the site and I will have a good view All the best Robert |

Try thin slivers of ginger in you mouth and suck and nibble on them all day. This allows me to talk freely all day. I even have one in my mouth during the night and now no horribly gunky throat in the morning.
Also a natural mothwash by J.A.S.O.N. aloe vera flavour is helping. Good luck Phil Challenger Good luck Phil Challenger |
