A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL READERS |

Hi Pikeman
Happy Christams to you as well. Will it be merry with that peg of yours. I discovered this week that a small glass of Bailey's Irish cream liquer is a tolerable occasional alcoholic drink for someone with distorted tastebuds. I never liked whisky before, but this has a good flavour compared to how tastelss I find orange juice. But after a few sips it just tastes strongly of something - don't know what, but it is nice to just join in a bit and feel normal. Chocolates are still too clutchy and turkish delight passable, but still only 50% of what I recall. Fruit jellies not too bad and Xmas pud is actually ok too as long as the portion is small. I must say I have felt a bit miserable seeing trolleys piled high with goodies that I loved and knowing it's not worth the bother of buying them to go urghhhh and waste them all. So tomorrow my husband and I (him with gall bladder problems) are just doing our own thing having a non normal Xmas lunch of lots of fruit and fish for him and I can now eat cream cheese on a thin rice cracker and some smoked salmon It's a better taste than a year ago for me. I'll be having trifle too and have discovered panne cotta is also ok. I have to eat his trifle becuase of the fat, but that's ok by me. What a pair. Still I'm sure that is better than your PEG. Oh happy days..... Happy Christmas to all especially you, Vinod, Steph and Paul. |

Hi Pauline, and I hope you enjoyed your forcinly restrained Christmas.
It's good to read that you're finding more and more things you're able to eat and drink. OK they'll never taste as they used to do but at least there's some vestigial taste. On your recommendation I tried the Baileys, quite pleasant. Whisky used to be one of my favourite tipples but I've only tried a very small one since the op. I found that produced an intense burning sensation in my mouth, as do both orange and grapefuit juices. So I've stayed with plain old ordinary beer. Got my feed delivery just before Christmas and disappointed to find that there was no turkey and brandy flavour, just the usual YUCK. It now only remains to wish you, your husband and all other mail readers a Good New Year and hope you all enjoy yourselves despite your problems |
