I have just looked in the mirror this morning and found hair in the flap of my tongue and wonderered is it normal. They used the muscle from my left wrist for the flap back in 2004? Best Wishes and Big Bear Hugs Russ W

Hey Russ! For most people hairy tongue is not only not normal, it's a medical condition. We, my friend, are not "most people." I have hairy forearms, and so my flap (harvested from my right arm) is also hairy. While it IS strange, I take it as a sign that my flap is in good shape and getting adequate blood flow. I didn't think anything of it until a couple of years ago when I was having a few teeth removed. The dentist was so stunned by what he saw that he picked up a pair of scissors and gave my tongue a hair cut. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Hey Russ, If there is one reason to be glad of having r/t that has to be it. Before I had my r/t I had a horrible hairy tongue. My flap was taken from my thigh and it was well hairy in just a period of about 10 weeks (from the date of op to r/t). I was horrified to find the hair, which at times used to make me gag but I did manage to make a lot of people laugh. Best Wishes Sue

In a past posting, Vicki Lynn mentioned the possibility of having laser treatment to get rid of the hair in the flap.
