Diagnosis! Bit confused!

Hi everyone,
Me and Brian went back to see consultants yesterday, thankfully the nodes on his lung were nothing, Yippee!! They said the PET scan confirmed that his left tonsil is the primary and that the glands on both sides of his neck had some disease present. After saying last week they would operate if this was the case, they have now decided not to operate! They said that 7 1/2 weeks of chem/radiotherapy will be enough, they will re-scan after this and if need be may operate then!!!??? So the plan is to have a peg tube fitted and mask made over next few weeks, then start treatment. We've decided to bugger off to our place in Turkey next week to recharge the batteries ready for the challenge ahead!! Hope everyone is keeping well.

Good news Lynne. Sounds like now they've got the results in they know exactly what they're dealing with and how to get rid of it. The ball is well and truly rolling now.

Good idea to bugger off Smiler. Enjoy yourselves.

They told us after dx that they would give Chemo and r/t but would probably have to operate after all treatments to remove diseased nodes in Bills neck. I was as you are, worried about this, reading through these pages and wondering just how much suffering he was going to have to go through. What actually happened was that 24 hours into the initial chemo you could visibly see the lumps in Bills neck reduced. Result, no surgery.

Good luck

ps please can I bugger off with you to Turkey!

Lynne could you just expand a bit on the "nodes in his lungs are nothing".It seems a bit of a loaded statement.

Liz,
I also had nodes on my lungs that turned out to be no biggie. Probably scar tissue from something in the past. They hadn't changed after chemo so dr's wrote them off.

Lynne,
Huge relief isn't it?! As if being diagnosed with cancer isn't bad enough?! & then they btell you there are 'suspiciouc areas' on your lungs to! I was like - PLEEEASE! Give me a break!
Enjoy the break & brace yourselves!

Hi again everyone, just back from turkey, it was nice to have a week away together. Brian had his mask fitting on Wednesday, got to go back next week for further radiotherapy planning session, then 7th Feb he's having PEG tube inserted, hopefully treatment should be starting on the 12th Feb.
Liz, they said the 'nodes in lung' were probably scar tissue or old inflammation but were definitely not metastases.
Paul, well can understand the rollercoaster effect, looks like a long ride.
Chelle, yep it was a huge relief, Brian said we must have looked abit loopy, coming out of an oncology unit laughing and dancing!!!
Hope everyones keeping well, thanks for all your comments,
