Dave,
I know the feeling well. I felt as though i was constantly "fiddling with myself. I also felt very cold most of the time and since last summer was the hottest for a while-it was very strange.
Try and get out. It stops you thinking of yourself and what is happening to you. I expected too much and perhaps you are too.
It will get better, it still suprises me when my husband says " you couldn't eat that last week".
Tell the docs ALL of your problems and hopefully they will listen and provide good advice. Don't forget we are all here for you.

After RT has finished your expectations become too high (I'll be better soon syndrome!)
When it doesn't happen a severe depression kicks in. It did with me and I had a nervous breakdown.
Do go on anti-depressants. There is nothing wrong with chemical assistance. It helped me a lot.. Unfortunately Rome isn't built in a day with this.
Review your progress every month or bimonthly.
You will make progress - don't expect it to be quick. A daily walk! You are doing well - It took me 3 months before I felt physically well enough to go out again after my RT finished.

I am 2 and a half years down the line now and feeling well.
Good luck -you will get there - it just takes time.

Hi everyone

Sue here Dave's wife.

Dave does not realise how well he is doing, he is doing fantastic this time last week he could hardly talk and was only having 3 drinks aday,to today he has had blended real food. I will continue to keep telling him how fantastic he is doing until he realises himself.

Thanks to all of you for you help and support, it means a lot to us both.

Evening Sue, thats exactly what I did with Brian. The improvement is so slow, its measured in weeks rather than days, but we see the improvement when our loved one doesnt.
Have you read Dr Peter Harveys article, After the Treatment Finishes - Then What? We both found it helpfull, hope you do too. I still read it now & then. Fran.

Hi again
2 and a half years down the line - taste is much better but not a 100%. Saliva improved but still quite poot overall. Hot and spicy foods are OUT!Only the mildest of curries for me now!
Other foods need plent of gravy or sauce.
or lashings of that spray cream

good luck - tony k

Hi Dave & Sue

I hope I can give you some comfort, 7 weeks post treatment and went out on Saturday and had my first full English breakfast with loads of cups of tea (took for ever to eat).

I felt just like you for the first 4 or 5 weeks but I reckoned that I had to eat so I might as well go for it and I am sure soon you will be doing the same.

My mouth is dry as a pub with no beer, so i have a small bottle of water with me always and have started to chew gum which really helps, you do need to take in plently of fuilds it really helps.

My phelgm stopped around 4 or 5 weeks but we are all different, keep up the salt and bycarb mouth wash I am still using every two or three hours.

For the first 3 weeks I could not be bothered to do anything I did go to work but I ended up sleeping in a sleeping bag on the office floor (one of the perks of being your own boss).

Bit of a ramble the above but I hope that you will soon be getting back to feeling better and stronger.

Take care,

Tony

Hi guys!
I know how frustrated you're feeling Dave, but you're definately expecting too much! It honestly does get better! The fact you're even able to go for one walk a day is excellent as i coudn't go anywhere for a long time after treatment. & look at me now! 6 months on and i'm back at work full time!
As you know, i didn't start eating proper food again until 3 months after treatment and look at you go with your fish & potatoe! The fish in butter sauce - the boil in the bag kind - is really good!
Don't beat yourself up because you feel bad. You're entitled too! Your energies are so focused before and during the treatment it has to catch up with you eventualy!
You really are getting there & listen to your wife!
Michelle

Way to go Chelle! I was still using my Peg reularly until a good 3 months after finishing treatment.
You do have to think-"what was I like this time last week?" to get things in perspective.
I still managed to get out and play tennis and golf-not very well! but it got me out and seeing other people. I don't do sitting down very well- although I did watch alot of rubbish on telly. It took a while for me not to feel guilty for just sitting around getting better.
But again the spouse sorts you out! What would we do without our support?
Love to you all
Anne
