I have had a swallon painful salivary gland under the back of my tounge for 4 months now ,I have had xrays and a scan and the results were nothing found. Now I have to have a silogram done and the ENA doctor said the gland doesnt feel like a tumor but he cant promise..........I am out of mind with worry because I have read if it is cancer its a difficult one to recover from. Also how quickly does a cancer growth grow in this area ? The waiting is torture to my anxious mind.

Worrying can be the worst part, so I feel your pain. If it were cancer, they probably would have figured that out by now. Are you getting any more tests done? A biopsy procedure can be painful and nasty, but at least its better than worrying all day and night.

Hi Ron, thanks for your reply. They havent arranged any other tests so far just the silogram on thursday. I was told for the past 4 months it was probally a stone or an infection but now they have ruled this out.Dont know if i can trust what they think anymore and I am dreading Thursday. I am hoping someone could tell me after 4 months would a cancer growth be obvious to diagnose?

Good afternoon Mirry, I am neither a doctor nor a dentist, but I am a mouth cancer patient twice over.In my experience mouth cancers grow quickly and after four months it should be quite obvious to anyone who knows what to look for.Regarding Thursday, you must certainly keep the appointment but I think you can simmer down a little because I think the news will be better than you are expecting (no guarantees now!)I know what the waiting is like,I have an appointment Dec 21 for the results of a biopsy but I am not letting it spoil the enjoyment of preparing for Christmas. When Damacles invented the torture of suspending a sword by a single hair over someone's head he was making it easy wasn't he?He should have had a word with Hippocrates to find out how to really get someone worried. I'll be thinking about you on Thursday, Mirry, and so will a lot of other people who have read your postings, and we are all hoping your news is good. Please let us know how you get on. Keep Smiling John

Hello Mirry As John has said, it could be a non-cancer. There are a variety of non-neoplastic disorders that can affect a salivary gland. These include chronic sialadenitis, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, animal scratch disease, actinomycosis and Sjogren's syndrome and require differential diagnosis and management. Let us hope for the best and that the tests allow you to have the treatment you need to sort it all out. Let us know how you get on. Many thanks for your replys, John, your message made me smile and feel bad for being such a worry head, I will be thinking of you December 21st with fingers crossed. Dr V.K.J ,THANKS for the list of disorders ,I am a 37 yr old/ F/ Non smoker/non drinker. Back in late august when my swelling began in my Submandibular gland I was in alot of pain and just didnt know what to do with myself. Lately the pain isnt so severe and although I told the ENT doctor this he said its still enlarged. I have also been suffering from alot of dizzyness and didnt know if the swelling could cause this symptom? my local GP said its just anxiety. I will let you know how Thursday goes and cant thank you all enough x

Had the test done today and the doctor said I had some particles blocking the duct (that he washed away with the dye during the test. He said id had a precious acute infection that caused this swelling. My gland feels much better already when i speak or swallow,I hope it continues. many thanks for your kind support x
