Have a nice evening, glad the salt water working. Keep persevering with eating different things it gets easier and better as the weeks go by. I am now a confident restaurant eater and finish nearly at the same time as everyone else! That wasn't the case when we went on hol in June to Majorca every meal was a challenge not a pleasure.
Have fun
Sue

Well I have returned to work, everyone is being very nice, but I know when I leave at the end of the day I have had a long day, even if it is only 5pm ish.

I used to be the life and soul, now I am conserving my mouth and reducing the number of conversations I am having, what a joy due to the mouth ulcer.

The benefit I have this month is only three days in the office and two days working at home which reduces the stress and allows recovery time, next week its three days at home two in the office.

Although I did feel tired last night no more than normal so lets see how well I am doing come Thursday morning!

I have managed half a Worthington smooth, the only thing I can manage without affecting ulcerated tounge or throat so hey things are looking up - however, I have been eating out but find myself watching other people eating and thinking wow I really wish I could do that eat that easily Smiler I take my time in eating but at least I can eat what I want at the moment which is some benefit.

Well things seem to have moved on quickly this week. Thanks to James and Sue. I did some research on cholrohexidine, think I spelt that right after I found 3 full bottles in my medicine cupboard that came home from Hospital with me in Aug 2005. The research was varied but implied it was good as a plaque inhibitor and had sucess at keeping thrush at bay. I started rinising twice a day with this, which I found stingy, but then realised a level of comfort was appearing in my mouth. Then on Monday I started topping up my warm salt water mouth rinses with soluble disprin as per James suggestions and blimey within minutes I could feel the tenderness of the ulcer reduce and now I have been able to eat, drink and talk for what period I like with 1 out 10 pain from the ulcer.

So it must be either the cholrohexidine, and/or salt water/disprin or a combination of both calming the ulcer down. On visual inspection it is reducing in size and already today quality of life has improved 5 fold, thanks guys keep the suggestions coming.

Hi Nigel, I'm so pleased for you and I hope you continue to improve in leaps and bounds.
It seems that the better you get the better you get! If you see what I mean!

What can I say. The one thing I have learnt from this horrid illness is that everyone is different and that I am very lucky in the way I am healing after reading other people's experiences of what they have they have had to endure.

I understand completly, it is not me but my husband Jerry. He is still on the feeding tube, He does cook up a pot of Pinto beans and will blend it with is liquid supplement. But I would so like to seat and eat a meal with him.

Do not give up.

I am still not eating apart from the odd soup but can choke on that if it has bits in it! You kno what I really miss? - I too used to be the life and soul and when I was happy used to sing in the office (lousy voice but at least I enjoyed myself!) My voice is now very croaky and I just cannot sing anything at the moment - apart from anything by Paul Robeson or 'wandering star' !!....

I remember the eating thing well.....it was a sense of duty to my body and little else. Now I eat both for pleasure and neccessity though dry mouth will maybe always be a prob,....and like Sue, wine and spirits taste very sharp and irritable to me. The only alcohol I dare touch is smooth creamy beer like John Smith or Caffreys which goes down well and does'nt blitz the tongue.
I've got a camper too mate, and had a few lonesome jaunts myself to contemplate my experience with Cancer.
One thing i did buy Nigel, when i was struggling with food, was a smoothie maker into which I threw my favourie fruits and made some healthy and nutritious drinks.
Anyway...keep up the progress. Steve.
