I love my dentist (no not that way).

Was eating some crisps, chewing away and suddenly pain at the back of my mouth lower left side gum.

Had a good look around found small reddish lump with a whitish head on it.

First thought no it can’t be anything, second thought I hope not.

Ok I leave it for a while and see what happens, no s*t, next day went round to dentist quick explanation got to see my dentist.

Dentist has a good long look in my mouth and says it’s an ulcer saltwater and bicarb etc.

I have a great dentist who last year suggested that I needed an ENT appointment and has looked after me really well.

No moral to the story except a good dentist can save your life, mine did.

I read a posting or article a while back about a machine that scopes your mouth and can detect pre-cancerous and cancers cells in the mouth and upper throat. If I am correct you would think that such a machine should be in every ENT department?
Perhaps we should start a petition to our great leader Gorden Brown.

I used to be in BUPA but felt that I was not getting any real benefit from it.Two years before my diagnosis I took a Dental Plan instead and left BUPA.The NHS treatment I received for my cancer was superb and so is the aftercare but taking Denplan has probably saved me thousands of pounds. On average I visit the dentist at least once a month and he always checks me for abrasions or lumps.

I've FINALLY found a good dentist. He apreciates i'm a bit 'special needs' and takes care of me. Fitting the x-ray plate in my mouth was a task in itself!
He was the one that gave me the total situation with my saliva glands - no one has EVER checked there productivity since treatment.

I work in a dentist (as a receptionist) we offer Denplan, it's great. Patients get a really good deal. I would never work at a pratice I wouldn't be happy to have my treatment at. Always ask the nurse if they are treated there, you'd be suprised!

Most people don't realise when a dentist asks you during a check up to stick your tongue out, and then into one cheek and the other that they are indeed looking for suspicious lesions. Mine does, yours should.
