We are looking for volunteers to help the MCF launch the new MCF telephone helpline. We know there is a need for a telephone helpline, especially for those who need support and aren't able to get online to the message board. Our new volunteers would be given basic telephone call training and some counselling skills.

If anyone is interested please email me at geeta@mouthcancerfoundation.org

I would be interested to know why you would like to volunteer for the helpline, and how you think you could help.

We are very keen to hear from you! Please drop me a line via email.

Kind regards
Geeta

Hi Kez

We are looking for anyone in the UK who has cared for or who has had mouth cancer. Anyone who thinks that they may have some knowledge to give a supportive voice over the phone.

Volunteers would be trained with basic telephone skills initially.

Any volunteer on the rota would make calls from their own home and will be given expenses to cover all calls. There would be feedback between volunteers in the MCF so noone feels they are out of their depth.

Hope that helps Kez

Geeta

I am thinking of volunteering but would like to know how much time is required. Basically I don't want to volunteer and then drop out quickly.

My husband sadly died from tongue cancer last August and I was his main carer. So I have experience from that perspecti

i am looking forward to help as i know how it feels when someone in ur family suffers from cancer and you being a doctor just give them moral support to fight the deadly disease. my mother is suffering from multiple myleoma. herpes zoster is a manifestation of MM.any type of cancer is killing, but our love and support is all that we can give to them.

Hello Angel

Nice to hear from a Wakey-girl but sorry to hear about your mum. Your love and support is all that your mum wants. So be strong and be cheerful for your mum. You will find some of the advice of how best to help your mum at this cancerguides link.

Best wishes

I am interested in joining the helpline for oral cancer. I am a dentist and work with very high risk patients ie. extremely heavy drinkers, smokers and drug abuse patients and also work in special needs dentistry and as a clinical assistant in oral surgery with a special interest in prosthetics. I used to do a bit of work making obturators for post surgery oral cancer patients. I have a masters degree from London University in Public Dental Health.
If I can be of help I will be pleased.
Thankyou Cyril Brazil.
