Hello! I noticed a small bubble-type growth on my uvula several months ago. The front surface of the uvula looks bruised. It also points towards the front of my mouth rather than hanging straight down. I've had trouble swallowing my vitamins lately, have had a sore throat for about a year (thought it was sinus drainage causing irritation), swollen tonsils and lymph nodes.
I started becoming alarmed when it became difficult to breath while laying down. Today I examined my uvula more closely and it is firm at the top (feels like it has a ball in it) and the back has a small bulge (not sure how it's supposed to look or feel normally). I'm making an appointment with my dentist tomorrow to have him look at it. I'm wondering though if anyone has any information on this type of thing. Thanks, Kelly |

Hi Kelly
It could be an infection (abcess) that is pushing your uvula forward. You need to see your dentist or doctor. You may need antibiotics. Let us know how it turns out. Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
I saw my dentist on Friday. Literally said he thought it was "cool" that he could see the back of my uvula (because it doesn't hang downwards he could easily view it using his dental mirror). On his way out the door he flippantly said: "It's oddly shaped but I don't think you have cancer if that's what you're worried about". I'm not sure if I should get a second opinion or not. By his reaction it didn't sound like he examines very many uvulas (and really why would he). On the other hand he mentioned that it was oddly shaped and by my account it wasn't prior to several months ago. Oh, he also mentioned I have "huge" tonsils but said nothing more about it. It's a comfort that there's nothing obviously wrong (no infection or serious lesions). Yet I don't want to wait until there *is* something obviously wrong if I'm headed in that direction. Is there any way to tell? If the growth on my uvula is significant enough to be pushing it forward is it necessarily significant enough to pursue an answer? I am not worried per se I simply want to do what is responsible. Kelly |

Hi Kelly
Since it is not as before, it would make sense to find out why. So get a second opinion - from an ENT specialist, and ask why!
