Hi All,
I am new to the board and am totally freaked out. I saw 2, not 1 but 2, ent's today for a weird thingy on my uvuala...it looks like a skin colored skin tag. I went to the docs...the first doctor told me it was a pappiloma and that if it bothered me I can have it removed. I asked him if he thought it was cancer and he said no.

Saw second doctor, I told him what the first doctor said and he said, well it could be a pappiloma...and proceeded to tell me that is what it was...similar to a wart...so I go home feeling happy...and then I go to google and type in pappiloma in mouth and got THE PANTS SCARED OFF OF ME...

Everything that popped up had to do with oral cancer...so now I am going to go back in tomorrow and have them remove...I dont care if I have to stay in the office till someone cancels and doesnt show up...I am so scared...I havent eaten since yesterday and cant sleep...

So, my question...do you think that 2 seperate docs would tell me its not cancerous and make no indication it should be removed and still be wrong?!

The thing is about 2mm and is flesh colored and round...please, someone give me some advice...does this mean I am going to die? I have 4 kids and can not afford to die...I also run a horse rescue and they need me to?

Thank you!
Jo

Hi Jo, I should get it checked out with an ENT consultant. My secondary tumour on my neck was put down to mumps by my doctor, then then remaining swelling to blocked gland due to this. I saw a general consultant and asked him like you if it was cancer he said not. After 2months when it was still there and growing he then decided he was out of his depth and sent me to ENT man. So as you see you need to get it checked out by an ENT consultant. Hope this does not scare you even more, but it is best to be sure. I hope it turns out to be nothing, please keep us informed how you get on.

Good Morning Maurice,

Thank you for writing. Is an ENT Doctor the same as a consultant? Both doctors I went to are ENT Phyisians/Surgeons.

Also, I am scared about the needle that are going to have to stick in my mouth. I have not slept or eaten in the past 2 days...I am so mad that I was in both of the docs offices and no one told me that the pappiloma/wart/skin tag/whatever the heck it is could potentially be caused by a virus now suspected of causing a quarter of oral cancer!!

Please wish me luck, I am calling the first docs office today and if I can not get in there I have another appt with the ENT that my mother in law and brother in law go to for allergy stuff and they are supposed to be pretty good...

I am going to print out the info I found and then will have them remove it or I am going to remove it myself.

Thank you again!
Jo

ps...the day you show as the day you registered is my birthday!

Hello jo

Most HPV mouth cancers were in tonsil cancers, so relax. There are over 80 types of HPV causing papillomas and only are 'related' to oral cancer. So your experts weren't concerned. But for peace of mind haver the papilloma removed. Then relax.

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee

HI ALL,

WENT TO A 3RD ENT TODAY...HE SAID THAT I COULD MONITOR THE "THINGY" ON MY UVULA AND COME BACK EVERY 3 MONTHS...IN HIS PROFESSIONAL OPINION IT WAS A BENIGN GROWTH...LIKE A SKIN TAG...SO I ASKED HIM IF HE THOUGHT IT WAS CANCER...AND SHOWED HIM STUFF I GOT OFF OF THE INTERNET...HE LOOKED AND ME AND SAID..."WE ARE NOT GOD..." AND ADVISED ME TO "STAY OFF THE COMPUTER"...I THINK KNOWLEDGE IS POWER...THE MORE YOU KNOW, THE MORE YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR HEALTH...I WOULD NEVER LET SOMEONE DECIDE FOR ME WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT MY HEALTH...I DO WANT PROFESSIONAL INFORMED ADVISE...BUT, ULTIMATELY THE DECISION IS ONES OWN...

ANYWAY, I WENT WITH THE REMOVAL AVENUE AND AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT REMOVED ON NEXT WEDS...AT 8:30AM...HE IS GOING TO "SPRAY" MY THROAT AND THEN SNIP IT OFF...AAAACCCKKKKK...

I OPTED FOR THE REMOVAL AS I DONT THINK I COULD FUNCTION CONSTANTLY WORRYING ABOUT IT...THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE KIND WORDS YOU HAVE SENT! I SO APPRECIATE THE KINDESS HERE IN THIS GROUP...AND I HAVE ONLY BEEN ON A DAY OR SO!

AND, THIS DOCTOR WAS SO MUCH NICER THAN THE OTHER 2 WHOM I SEEM TO BE BOTHERING, YET HAD NO PROBLEM CHARGING ME $145 FOR LITERALLY A 3 MIN EXAM...THIS DOCTOR TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN WHAT I HAD, WHAT IS GOING ON AND THE OPTIONS I HAVE...

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ME...I KNOW I AM A WORRY WART AND AM SORRY IF I HAVE ANNOYED ANYONE...

HI,

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING SO SUPPORTIVE AND CARING! I HAD THE PAPILLOMA REMOVED ON WEDS AND THE DOCTOR CALLED TODAY TO TELL ME IT WAS A SQUAMOUS PAPILLOMA.

I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THE LAB DOES NOT NORMALLY DO HPV TESTING ON THESE TYPES OF LESIONS...SO I AM AWAITING A CALL FROM THE OFFICE DIRECTOR...I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE I PASS ALONG THE INFO ABOUT THE LINK BETWEEN CERTAIN HPV STRAINS AND ORAL CANCER...

ANYWHO...I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WAS AN HPV LESION OR A RUN OF THE MILL LESION...I MAY NEVER KNOW...BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT SINCE VISITING THIS SITE AND READING THE STORIES OF THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE HERE, I WILL NEVER MISS ANOTHER DENTIST APPT AND WILL BE DILIGENT ABOUT ORAL HEALTH CARE.

THANK YOU AGAIN AND THE BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!
JO
