growth, congestion, and sore throat

Hi 14 months ago I had a really bad upper respitory infection, after it went away I had a chronic sore throat. During this time I noticed a small growth on the floor of the mouth that when pushed against the teeth turns into a movable ball.

I saw an ENT in the states and gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way telling me the growth was not an issue....

back in August after 6 months of this I saw an ENT in Colombia where I live now. I told her I wanted to verify that cancer is not an issue. She refused to do a bioapsy as she didnt want to cause damage to nerves, I demanded a bioapsy from the head of the medical divison of the company I work for. He refused citing the same concern.

I took an MRI and CT exam as they told me if it was cancer this would show up. It didnt show anything but a severe deviated septum that I got 20 years ago in a fight. They gave me some decongestents and a spray which take away about 60% of my sore throat and congestion, but still a hinderance.

They are telling me I have to have surgery on my septum to stop the sore throat and congestion. Ive read alot of contrary info on this. My concern is getting the surgery and still having issues, most of all cancer....I have another appointment with an ENT to once again rule out cancer..questions...

Does a MRI and CT rule out cancer??? Ive read this is a secondary test and that a bioapsy needs to be done....Im very concerned as this sore throat is killing me and my mental health is bad to concern....thanks

Hi Lost

I'm so sorry to read about all of the problems you're having.

Is there any way that you can go to either an oncologist or--better--a head and neck cancer specialist. I hope that this upcoming appointment is not with the same ENT you've already seen.

You're right to insist on a biopsy. As far as I know, this is the only way to diagnose or rule out cancer.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Julia
