hey Doc and everyone else! well, i was finishing painting yesterday, and my yankee game was about to start ( i am still in shock we lost 4 in row after being up 3-0 in games!) i started feeling a burning/irratated feeling in the very top part of my gums on the left side, more near the back of the molars, but its so high up, it feels or looks to me (that old naked eye) that its where the gum and the top lip meet or join, so i cant really tell if its on the lip or at the gum.

anyhow, i went to the dentist, cool guy, takes me in for a quick look (5 mins) says """ i dont see anything clinally wrong""" as in he explained, i dont see any physical symptoms. tells me give it about a week if it doesnt go away or gets worse come back, i asked him """does it look like any form of oral cancer etc etc etc""" he said, no, i cant gurantee you anthing 100%, but no, i wouldnt worry about it.

i didnt really feel """satisfied""", i called the local emergency dept in my area to see if they were busy, cause i hate to come in with something not so serious, if the place is busy, they said, """its not too bad""" so off i went.

waited about 90 mins, young doctor, comes in, i show him where its at, looks at it for 2 mins, and says """looks like an Aphthous Ulcer""" i'm then thinking """woah, this is serious""" he says not at all, that it should clear with in 5 to 7 days give or take.

i come home, and type """Aphthous Ulcers""" in google, and it returns """canker sores!"""

ha, but does this sound right to you doctor, that could it actually be, i rarely if at all get canker sores, i cant remember the last one, any insight on """Aphthous Ulcers""" please,

thanks everyone again,
god bless

Hi Skidrow

Many others too get confused and worried by the use of this term canker ulcers. It is a layperson term for aphthous ulcers. Perhaps that is what the dentist meant! These ulcers normally resolve within 3 weeks. There is some good advice on managing them at the Mayo Clinic's website. Follow the link given. Hope it helps. Apthous ulcers are not well understood but appear related to stress (like your team loosing Wink ).

Best wishes
