If i touch my tongue to my bottom lower inside lip, I have a sensation of rawness(like when you bite your cheek). There is a faint white line that goes from top to bottom almost center in my mouth. It has been there for about a month, I do have bruxism and wear a guard at night. The spot doesn't hurt, just feels strange. I've also had the lump in my throat feeling, but I've had this before and was caused by some anxiety. I have a appointment with a dentist in 10 days, but is this something I should have checked out sooner? A little worried.

Hi

I'm glad that you have an appointment already lined up. If it's causing you a lot of worry (I know, define "a lot") you might want to call the dentist to see if you can get in any earlier.

Did you have your guard professionally fitted or is it one of those that you buy at the drug store, dip in hot water and try to fit yourself? The rawness and the white line you mentioned--are they on the side you sleep on? It could just be that you're irritating the inside of your mouth--like people who wear ill-fitting dentures, or people who've recently begun orthodontic treatment.

I hope that your dentist is able to resolve your problem. If he (or she) isn't able to help, don't stop looking for an answer. Mine was ultimately found in the Otolaryngology department at U of M.

Please let us know how things turn out.

Julia

Hi Julia,

Thanks for responding, my guard was professionally fitted, but it is 3 years old now. The problem seems to be in the front of my inside lip, almost center. In my paranoia I have decided to go to my GP and then follow up at the dentist the following week.

I will keep you updated. Thanks again.
