Sounds like an abcess to me. I've had a few and those were my symptoms, although I also had toothache in the affected toothe. You get a lump on the gum and if not treated your face will swell. You need to see your dentist who will give you antibiotics

Hi youngB

You need to see your dentist to diagnose and treat the cause. You can encourage the infection to discharge by doing warm salt-water baths over the the affected area, this will avoid it swelling again. But it needs treatment. Let us know how it turns out.

Best wishes

Yes, you still need to see your dentist. Firstly to confirm that it is an abcess and secondly to make sure that the infection is gone. Untreated abcesses can cause a lot of problems and just because the swelling's gone down, the fact that you still have the lump on your gum means that the infection is still there.
