Hi I've joined the forum because my partner has quite a large lump formed on his left tonsil, it looks sore but there's no pain. He's also had a touch of earache and neck pain. There are no other lymphs risen as far as we can see. He visited the doctor today who had a brief look at it and said it was just an infection and to take antibiotics. We became aware of it over a week ago and nothing has changed. I think the doctor rushed the appointment and didn't bother to take a proper look or do any tests. I'm going to ask for a second opinion as I'm not reassured at all. Do these symptoms sound like cancer? we are both very worried and would appreciate your comments. Thanks, Laura.

Hi Laura
I have just been diagnosed with cancer of my tonsil/tongue and am awaiting treatment. In my case I went to my GP as I had an enlarged lymph gland. I didn't even know that I had a suspicious looking red area on where my tonsil used to be as there was no pain. Luckily my GP arranged for me to have an appointment with a ENT Specialist a week later who diagnosed it. Although it probably is no more than an infection,I think your partner should definitely get it re-checked just to be sure, especially if you feel the Dr only gave it a cursory look. It would be good to get your partner's dentist to have a look as they are trained to spot anything abnormal and often they are more clued up about this sort of thing than the GP's! Try not to worry as even if there is something going on it seems as though your husband was aware of it early on. Let us know how you get on and remember there is so much help and support on this forum so don't worry alone. I only joined a couple of weeks ago and I feel much calmer about what I have to go through than I did two weeks ago! Sandy |
