Hi Everyone, I am a 29 year old female who 6 months ago got a really bad bout of earache on one side and painful swollen glands at the same time I also noticed a painless hard lump above 1 of my teeth on my upper gum on the same side as the earache, went to see my dr who gave me ibuprofen for the earache as couldnt find anything wrong and said not to woory about the lump. Earache cleared up so put the lump out of my mind. Anyway 4 months later had to see dentist for my routine check up and straight away she was concerned about the lump saying it was unusual she took an xray and it revealed a large cyst so she referred me to an oral surgeon I have had to wait 7 weeks for an appointment which is now 2 weeks away but im worried because the earache is back and has been there for 5 weeks same side again this is making me worry the cyst is cancerous. Please advise

if your dentist had thought you might have cancer you woud have been referred to the hospital under the two week rule, which government rules state you must be seen within two weeks of the referral,so i would guess your dentist isn't overly concerned.it is awful waiting for these appointments ,but i would try to think positive and i wish you good luck

These answers to Frequently asked questions about dental cysts might reassure you.

The earache is probably not related to the 'cyst'. If the ENT specialists can't find anything wrong with the ears or throat, it is worth considering a diagnosis of masticatory Myofascial Pain

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
