Has anyone suffered with what seems to be a small blood blister on the gum? I have recently discovered one and I'm getting myself all worked up about it.

I've been going to the Dental Hospital almost every week for the last 3 months getting a new obturater made and I'm wondering if all the messing about in my mouth could have caused this thing to appear. I was last at the hospital on Thursday 8th April but forgot to mention it. It seems to come and go. Of course when it's there I worry for a few days, then forget about it when it goes (out of sight out of mind), but now getting quite concerned as it seems to be filling up with blood and pus. There is no pain or discomfort with it.

I'm due to go back to the Dental Hospital on 28th April but wonder if I should try and see someone about before then.

Was diagnosed with ACC of a minor salivary gland 6 years ago. Everything has been fine since then. Should I be now worrying again?

Hi Jules

If it seems to come and go and fills up with blood and pus with no pain or discomfort with it, it might be a discharging sinus from a source of infection (periodontal pocket, dead tooth, root remnant, dead bit of bone, etc). What you describe, doesn't fit in with a cancer recurrence - so stop worrying about that! Do go and ask at your hospital about this blood blister when you see them next.

Best wishes

Thanks Dr Joshi for your reply. It has put my mind to rest. Will definately mention it next time at the hospital (even if not present at the time).
