Concerned mother...

My 4yr old daughter has a bump on her gum on her bottom jaw it looks most like a fibroma from what I can tell. It most resembles a fibroma on this site http://www.doctorspiller.com/Sores_Lumps_Bumps.htm but its not on the cheek it is right on the gum. It is not overly sore she says only when she pushes on it ( I found her in the bathroom with a q-tip pushing on it and it had bleed just a little). I thought originally it was from an infection possibly but it doesn't seem to be that.

I have called the dentist but he can't see her right away due to the area we live in there is not too many other places to go.

I am a bit concerned due to all the information I have found on the internet, and me being a mother makes it even worse. It also is not attached right to the jaw bone...its very loose like a fatty bump that is semi movable. but you can only move it so far, shes got a small mouth.

I'm just hoping someone might be able to help me out a little while I wait for the dentist...

Hello AngelaJ

It would be very unusual for a 4 year old to have a mouth cancer, so relax. It could be a pyogenic granulama caused by irritation (e.g. from the margin of a decayed tooth, excess filling material, or calculus, etc) or a gingival fibroma. Pyogenic granulomas tend to bleed when pushed about but fibromas normally don't.

Hope that puts your mind to rest. Let us know how it turns out.

Best wishes
Vinod
