hi everyone
i feel like there is always something that i am worried about since i finished my treatment 2 years ago but i have a problem that is worrying me.in one week i have lost 10lbs and my clothes are hanging off of me lately.i am wondering if this is a thyroid problem because i am always cold i am also getting palpitations and the area where my thyroid is is quite swollen,i am tired but not sleeping well.my next oncology appt is may 1st so i will go and see my g.p in the meantime and see if he will send me for a blood test.maybe it is nothing to worry about.i just wondered if due to where the radiotherapy was directed which was each side of my neck and the centre of my neck if this could have triggered it off.has anyone else had thyroid problems after treatment.thanks for listening to me waffling on,i feel like a hyperchrondriac, love shirl xxx

Hi Shirl,

So sorry to hear you are off colour again and you are not a hypochondriac at all!! Of course you will be anxious after everything you have been through. You have every right to be. Head and neck radiation can cause a variety of thyroid problems so do get down your GP and ask them to do some tests.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Shirl,

Your problems with your thyroid sound very familiar. I have now been having blood tests for over a year due to an under active thyroid. My gp diagnosed me with a condition known as Hashimotos disease but as of yet I am not on medication. My gp is monitoring the situation (I'm off for another blood test tomorrow) and wants to be absolutely certain that my thyroid is not going to recover before he puts me on long term medication.

Did you have base of tongue cancer as I did?

Hope everything works out OK for you.

Robert
