Question of taste - after the meds/treatment is overGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
Hi, I'm researching for a book I hope to publish someday. The story takes place in the 1800's. The main character has 1/2 of his tongue removed. As you can guess, since it's in the 1800's, that would be before radiation, the current medicines that are available, etc. that can affect taste. It used to be said that certain taste buds only were located in specific sections on the tongue. I recently read that is not true. So, I'd appreciate any feedback about what tastes one does have (once the meds, etc. are over) Perhaps mentioning a few of the foods you can taste may be helpful, too. I hope my request doesn't offend anyone. This is purely voluntary, of course. My best wishes to all of you and your families for good health and happiness.

Hi Kathee, The book/research sounds interesting. I had facial surgery, jaw removed. My tongue is still intact but damaged. I only had minimal RT (seven sessions) because of it causing other problems but if it's any help anything I manage to eat or drink now tastes sweet. Even savoury food has a sweet undertaste and sweet stuff is mega sickly. SusieR
