Hello,

I am a 36 year old white male. I smoked from age 31-36 (quit in Jan 2004) about a pack a day. Never drank other than socially.

I am currently experiencing globus on a consisten basis. I also feel a slight clicking when i swallow small amounts of liquid or air. It has not interferred with my eating (not lost weight). Having had a couple of close friends lose loved ones to throat cancer in the past year, I am paniced.

I have been to my gp who focused on gerd. She ordered an upper gi (barium swallow) and it showed a large hiatal hernia and gerd. I went to an ENT about 1 month, before results of upper gi back. He told me to wait for upper gi, examined me and said i had absoluttly no concern of having cancer.

My primary referred me to a gastroentrologist, who did a endoscope down my throat into my esophagus and into my stomach. He diagnosed gerd a large hiatal hernia and esophagittis. He assured me he saw nothing that indicated cancer. I went back to an ENT (call me paranoid). He looked me over, checked my throat and neck for lumps and said I looked great, I am a healthy young man and the gerd is causing my symtoms.

Just wanting another opinion here, do i need to get over the cancer concerns and move on.

Thanks for any help

Hi Rich Casey

All your specialists have said there is no cancer! So don't think yourself into getting one! If you have stopped smoking, your risks from smoking will almost completely disappear. So rest easy and think positive.

You do have a hiatus hernia and gastric reflux causing an oesophagitis. So focus on getting this righted! Find out all you can on what you need to do to resolve the problem - changing eating habits, type of foods to avoid, stress levels, etc and medication if necessary from your doctor. Do good and feel good. Big Grin

Best wishes
