Hello guys.does anyone know that if the white patches in the mouth, along the lining of your cheeks, are those oral cancer symptoms? They are just there and have no special texture and are not pitch white, when i stretch my skin from the inside, they appear slightly more white when you just see without stretching my cheeks area they seem pretty white.

Meaning to say i open my mouth and look at it the through the mirror without opening my mouth very wide and it appears pretty white. When i stretch my cheeks,it appears less.

Another thing, there are 2 pimple like sores on the left and right hand side of my mouth. When i use my tongue to touch em,they feel like an eroded spot. The color is a bright red, like a blood spot in the centre and pale white on the sides.Located towards the front part but to the sides of the mouth.

I had went to a skin specialist who dismissed it as oral cancer and said i should not worry about anything but the net has gotten me worried.

I have no other symptoms like pain when eating, sensation of something stuck in throat, tongue pain, bleeding and stuff.I am 20 this year.

Another 2 things.Firstly, how long does oral cancer take to progress? My symptoms have been here for nearly 2 months and the white patches have not gotten worst since 2 months.

And do the white patches always mean its oral cancer?

What is the difference between the ones that meal oral cancer and the ones that are harmless?

I am also a smoker.

Thanks.

Hi Lion, I don't have the answers to your questions, but if you're really worried about it, you should make an appointment with an ENT doctor, GP or even your dentist. This will at least put your mind to rest, regardless if it is or isn't oral cancer.

Hopefully the answers from these professionals can determine whats happening in your mouth and you can take things from there.

I do hope the answer to your question is that it's not cancer, but the group on this site are just the best of people and are here to help.

Sorry I don't have the answer you're looking for, but I wish you the best, Cricket

hey i just had a biopsy done on friday as i was really afraid.

Anyway, the biopsy was the one where the doctor numbed my inner cheek and tore a small part of the skin and he said the wound ( 2mm ) should heal within 3 days but mine has already more or less healed. Is that a good sign?

And also,i have the whitish patches on both sides of my cheeks. So if the biopsy is done for only 1 side,is the other side detected as well?

Thanks guys.

Hello Lion

Only a very small percentage of whitish patches turn out to be cancer but they need to be watched. There are commoner in smokers. So the biopsy is a sensible management strategy. Let's hope for a non-cancer biopsy result. Do let us know how you get on.

And do stop smoking!

Best wishes

Thank you Dr. Joshi.

You mentioned that they need to be watched. Can you please elaborate more on that? Is it necessary to have the white patches removed even though there is nothing cancerous from the biopsy?

And,if the biopsy is done for only 1 side,is the other side detected as well?

You might find more detailed consideration of management in this article on Leukoplakia.

Good news,my biopsy shows everything is perfect.phew.

Dr Joshi,i read the article but i could not find what i wanted to.

So my last question is,like for my case the biopsy was done on the left side but on the right side there are patches also,so even though the biopsy was done only on the left side, does it mean that the right side is well too?

Thank you

hey guys noticed nobody replied so i wanna ask smth again.

My left side of my mouth where the last lower teeth is,feels like as if something is stuck there but there is nothing, sensation of swelling is there.

I used a mirror and saw there are red lines on the round part, the part just besides the last lower teeth on the left.

My question is,if the biopsy in August 16 showed everything was fine and there was no pre malignant cells detected, cld it be that something is wrong now?

Pls advice guys.Sorry for the complex post.

Hello lion234

You should ask your dentist these questions as it is not possible to make a diagnosis from the information provided without clinical examination.

Best wishes
