My Dad's got a lump on his gum

Hi everyone,

I'm really worried about my dad. He's had a whitish lump the size of a pea on his top gum for about two months. He went to the dentist last week and the dentist x-rayed his mouth and also gave him sum antibiotics, which have done nothing.

The dentist said he didn't know what it was so he was referring him to the hospital for a biopsy.

This week two more pin head size lumps have come up next to the original one. We're reall worried in case this is mouth cancer.

Can you tell me if this could be cancer.

Thanks

oops, sorry, I forgot to say that this lump only hurts when pressed. The lump is on the outside of the gum (next to cheek). My dad is 76.

Please try to help me. Thanks

Hello

It could be an infection which is presenting as a 'gum boil', but only a biopsy will tell. Let us know how your dad gets on.

Best wishes

Dr Vinod, thank you so much for your reply. Thinking about it, this could well be a gum boil as the white bit is in the middle.

I'll tell my mum and dad, just to put their minds at rest a little, until the biopsy has been done.

I'll post again when my dad's got his results.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer, I really appreciate it.
