Hi,
Having problems with a tooth and went to the dentist yesterday. He found a lump which is towards the back on the under side of my tongue. A carsa something a rather?? He asked if I've had it checked out which I said no. Google did not prove to be very friendly last night when looking up lumps and tongues. This morning, I caleld to make a doctors appointment and can't get in until next week. I was going to see them anyway. So, the fact that the doctors aren't rushing to see me, does this mean all is relatively fine? |

Good afternoon Monique,
I don't want to worry you unnecessarily but if the dentist said "carcinoma" you need a referral to the Maxillofacial unit at the local hospital and he should have made the necessary arrangements. The fact that he did not automatically refer you makes me think that the problem is of a more minor nature but you need to to get a satisfactory diagnosis so I suggest you ring the dentist and ask him to explain in more detail just what the lump is and ask him/her if you need to be referred to a specialist. There is no harm in also asking the doctor for his opinion but the dentist is usually more familiar with mouth problems, he spends all his life peering into one mouth or another. You should pursue this without delay. I hope that it is a minor problem, please let us know how you get on. Keep Smiling John |
