What I though was an abcess last sunday has turned into a large, 2 cm wide 'ulcer' on my upper gums just below my nose. There is no pain now so I dont want to rush to the dentist, but things do not add up.
Before Sunday, my front teeth were sensitive to hot/cold drink, this only occured when I had a new filling in my front tooth but not now. The 'ulcer' appears to stop below my nostril. Once I thought I had bad breath but no one could smell anything. I have a history of tooth decay, am 29, a smoker and partial to Guinness only. I have only had this ulcer without pain for 4 days and is not showing signs of going away.
What do people think/suggest?
Because it was Easter, with no dentist avaliable I took ibprofen and penicillen thinking it was an ulcer-I no longer take anthing.
Sorry for spelling mistakes,
Janis

I forgot to say that the 'ulcer' is very red in colour. Where I had my abcess years ago it is a white to pinkish hue with a spot laying outsite the gum. This has been like this for years and is hamless and can wear my partial plate in comfate.

Hello Janis

The ulcer is most probably caused by a breakdown of tissue over the area of your chronic abcess (the spot is a discharging sinus) where an acute flare-up seems to have occurred. See a dentist on Monday and get it treated (there is probably a non-vital tooth or other infection), mean warm salt mouthwashes should help.

Do stop smoking and take more care of yourself.

Best wishes
