Hi there

I have had a small lump in my mouth for about 3 months. It's on the inside of my gum, below my front 2 teeth, and just where the lower part of my gum meets the floor of my mouth. It feels like a grain of rice, probably the same size and I can move it about with my tongue easily.

I went to the dentist and he x rayed my mouth, saw no signs I assume of a tumour, and said that to look at where the lumps is, it looks perfectly normal. He said there was no signs of cancer, and not to worry.

However after not having bothered about the lump for a month, I checked again to find that it had not so much grown, rather than multiplied. There seems to be a few smaller "grain" that I can move around, but they are all clustered together. There's probably a couple of lumps that are rice sized, and some smaller ones.

Should I worry about this? I have a dental appt for mid Sept, should I get an appointment before that?

I'm a bit concerned that whatever it is seems to be spreading...so advice would be really welcomed.

I'm 33, and haven't smoked in 10 years.

Thanks alot

Nicky

Hi Nicky

By all means try to get into the dentist earlier--mid Sept might not seem like a long way off, but really time is of the essence. You might also want to have either an oral surgeon or an otolaryngologist examine you.

Please let us know how things turn out.

Hello Nicky

Cancer lumps in the mouth usually grows bigger and ulcerate. If that happens, then you better see your dentist earlier. But these grain sized 'lumps' are most probably minor salivary glands that you can feel but are impossible to see. Your dentist couldn't see anything abnormal. I suggest that you just keep your mid-Sept appointment and stop worrying.

Best wishes
