Hi there,
I only visited my dentist recently, and I didn't notice this weird thing here. I only got one good enough photo, so here it is...

I'm going to get a morning appointment tomorrow just to make sure everything is ok; but I could do with a little peace of mind if it's nothing sinister.

I wouldn't normally be so paranoid, especially at my age, but i've seen cancer kill before now, a couple of times in my family, and want to be on the safe side.

It feels a little rough to the tongue, non moveable, and feels bumplike if I push my tongue against it.

Thanks,

Tim

I don't know what it is, but you're wise to have a medical professional look at it. When I was diagnosed with tongue cancer 11 years ago, I had a sore, similar to the one you've photographed underneath my tongue. It didn't hurt, it didn't bleed, and it really didn't bother me, it was just there. Neither my medical doctor or dentist seemed to concerned about it, but when my ENT insisted on a biopsy, the little sore turned out to be cancer. Cancer in situ which was easily removed without much fanfare. Just make sure you find out what it is -- don't let the doctors tell you it's isn't anything to be worried about and then forget about it. Most likely? It isn't something you need to worry about -- just make sure you get to the bottom of it. Especially if the sore has been in your mouth more than a month. Still, don't think cancer until you hear those words -- it could be many things besides cancer. Good Luck!

Hi Tim

I never looked at the "thing" under my tongue, but that's how I imagined it to look in the early days--and now the left side of my tongue is store bought. Congratulations on being so proactive. I hope everything turns out well for you.

Hello Tim

It is an ulcer unless proved otherwise. An ulcer should heal within 2-3 weeks. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
