just discovered a small hard lump - about the size of a matchhead directly below my smallest middle bottom tooth. it is far down and on the inner side of my gums, but not quite on the floor of my mouth. it is not painful unless i really poke at it. i cant seem to move it at all. i can feel it with my tongue and it appears as a white dot when i look closely. i was at the dentist less then a month ago and all was fine, do not smoke or drink. i'm afraid the dentist didn't notice it because it is so small and possibly new. is it safe to wait until my next appointment in approx. 5 months if it remains the same? thanx | |||

Hi 54sam In some people, little bumps are found on the attached gingivae of the mandible. These are normal structures in these individuals, they may regress with age, require no treatment, but may be mistaken for disease. see the Topic: scared of lump in mouth. Some normal bumps are shown at Examination Technique with Normal Findings and Structures Mistaken for Disease - look at Fig. 1.53 and Fig. 1.54. Do see you dentist if you feel your lump getting bigger or sore, or, as Liz says, if you are really worried. Otherwise ask about it at your next 6 month visit to your dentist.
