About 4 weeks ago I discovered a small lump on the back of my gum which was growing steadily. It is about 5mm in diameter, hard and movable. There is no pain at all.
I went to see my GP who told me it was a blocked salivary gland but I was not convinced by the diagnosis. She prescribed me a course of antibiotics which I have now taken and the lump is still there. I am not sure if it is still getting bigger as I check it all the time which makes it hard to tell. I've booked another appointment but it is not for 2 weeks. I am very worried about it and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar phenomenon and if I should try and get an appointment sooner. Thanks |

perhaps I should add the lump is not discernable in colour from the rest of my mouth.

Hi tooyoung
It clearly is causing you distress, so you might want to see if your doctor can get you in any earlier, or even put you on some sort of "standby" list to be called in if someone else cancels an appointment. Have you been to a dentist to see if it might be a dental problem? For your own peace of mind, please stop checking it all the time--you'll only drive yourself mad. Please let us know how things turn out. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

Hello tooyoung.
Please see your dentist about the lump on the gum. Your dentist will know more about the mouth. Let us know how you get on. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know how it goes. I know it is hard to tell from my description alone but is it very likely to a tumour?

You can post a photo of it if you wish.

Yes, please reply with you diagnosis. I have the same problem. I've had it for months now. The lump has no pain. It's the same color as the rest of my mouth and it is movable. Mine has stoped growing. But I havent seen a doctor to determine what it is because Im low on cash and have no Medical insurance.

This really isn't the place for diagnosis.
That said, have you contacted any social service organizations in your area to see if there might be a low-cost or (preferably) free medical clinic nearby? Failing that, some facilities are willing to make payment arrangements. If there's a local teaching hospital, you might even want to check into that possibility. Please let us know how this turns out. Julia This message has been edited. Last edited by: Julia, Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

Hey guys!
I went back to my GP yesterday, an I am being referred on to a specialist as he couldn't see any problems with the tiny torch thing (I expected this). He didn't seem concerned at all and actually asked me if I would like to go to the specialist (he didn't recommend it). I'm not sure what this means. Perhaps I am worrying over nothing I would just rather know for sure! @Nikiloser For goodness sake just borrow the money somehow and go and if you are so worried. It would not be worth it to wait. I'll keep y'all updated. thanks |

I better clarify, when I say he did not recommend going to see the specialist I do not mean he was against it. He just didn't seem to think it was a necessity. I am going though.

Hey tooyoung
It's your mouth, not the doctor's so clearly he doesn't think it's a necessity. It's best to err on the side of caution. Here's one vote in favor of going to the specialist. Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

Hey guys, I had my appointement at the clinic last week. He told me that it was a swollen salivary gland and I had nothing to worry about. They offered to remove it but didn't recommend this.
Thanks for your support, I really appreciated it x |

Huzzah! I'm so glad to hear that it's not cancer. Thanks for letting us know.
