My boyfriend has been living on Jevity (like Ensure) for several months now and I have been reading about how beneficial it can be for cancer patients to change to an all-organic fruits and vegetables diet. The problem is, that since he still needs to use his peg tube, everything needs to be liquified. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about how much to make...what things to mix together, etc?

Hello again Belle 70 I am not sure that you are meant to put your own liquidised food directly into the peg but the peg nurse will be able to advise you. I just know that I was told only to use Jevity and medication. Does your boyfriend have a dietician who can advise him? Once I started to take food normally I made all my own "soup" with every organic vegetable on the market. I have put a number of recipes on my blog (story) on the home page. I know your boyfriend is not taking anything orally yet but they might be useful to you in the future when he is able to eat. Regards Brenda

Hi! well....I remember at the hospital when they first put the tube in, the doctor made a joke about how you could put a martini in it if you really wanted to. But to be safe, I did call to make an appointment for him with a naturopathic doctor and nutritionist and they said you could but it had to be very thin so as not to block the tube. As far as home-health care nurses go, we haven't had good luck with them at all. Half the time they don't even show up or they come at 9 at night when he is sound asleep! I think I am getting fed up with Western medicine and its cold approach. It is as if once they almost kill you with the cure...they leave you to figure everything else on your own. I am sure it has something to do with the fact that he doesn't have health insurance as well. There certainly are more alternatives when you have benefits and money! Hmmm...I seem to be ranting now. Its just such a terrible system. I am hoping that trying a nutritionist and maybe acupuncture etc, will be more beneficial. Anyway, I will check out your recipes and thanks for writing. All my best to you!

Brenda....just read your blog. You are so brave! Everyone here is of course but you have such an incredible spirit and truly an inspiration! I feel badly for being so whiny now...I know now he will get through this too!
