I have been told the Glandosane can cause severe tooth decay if used often.
I am currently using this product 3 or 4 times a day for dryness in the mouth.
If the above is correct does anyone hava any suggestions for an alternative.

many thanks

Tony

There is conflicting advice about it. Some decry it owing to the acidity of the product and demineralisation studies carried out on (bovine?) teeth outside the mouth while others say it is okay! There is a study that says that "There appeared to be little correlation between pH and mineral dissolution levels for the different saliva substitutes examined." The problem is that this issue has not really been studied in a scientific manner in real patients.

Saliva Substitutes: Choosing and prescribing the right product. says it should be avoided as it is acidic, while in Scleroderma and Dental Health it is not labelled as being 'not recommended due to low pH value' but promoted as an oral moisturing agent.

You can see some of the members views here. Some have found it helpful some have not. It would be good to hear from users of their experience with it!

Bottom Line: Patients suffering from xerostomia should be aware of the potential effects of oral hygiene products with low pH and high titratable acids. It should be avoided in patients with teeth. But if you find that it works best for you, do use a fluoride mouthwash four time a day to counter any demineralisation effects.

Hope that helps!

Best wishes

Dear Dr Joshi

Many thanks for your help on the dry mouth issue.
I have just purchased some Oramoist on line, (it is quite expensive).
Will take up your suggestions with the fluoride mouth wash any suggestion on what to use ( my mouth and tongue is still ulcerated from R/T).

Many thanks again.

Regards

Tony

Hello Kathleen

Try a fluoride mouth wash that is alcohol free e.g. Colgate's Fluorigard AF

Best wishes
