Pain that runs vertically from bump in mouth to neckGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I have a bump on the left side at the very bottom of my mouth. It's located about half an inch behind my torus mandibularis (It also sits lower than my torus mandibularis). I can't really feel it with my finger, but can feel it really well with my tongue. The strange thing is if I apply pressure to it, I get this stinging sensation that runs down my entire jaw towards my neck. I've noticed the last couple of weeks that I have this very very minor tingling sensation in my mouth. It mostly occurs in the morning. I was unfortunately a chewer but have not chewed for over 4 months. I guess I'm scared that I may have Cancer. Any ideas?

Hi Shadow Only one idea, I'm afraid: see your doctor or dentist about this, go YESTERDAY and don't go alone. Online diagnoses are a guessing game, and at a time like this, you need an answer more than a bunch of guesses. Your doctor or dentist will be able to do the tests to confirm or rule out cancer. Congrats on not chewing--keep on not chewing! Please let us know how this turns out. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

So are you afraid that I may have cancer? Please let me know your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

She is telling you to go to the doctor. She is telling you to go with a friend. She is tellin gyou that no one can diagnose you over the internet. She is afraid that you will not go! So make an appointment already and let us know how it goes.

I totally would, but I have no health coverage. Before I put myself in-debt I just wanted to see what everyone on here thought. Thanks for your help.

Hi Shadow I was where you are. Helping Dad pretty much read my mind. There are two reasons I told you not to go to the doctor alone. One, clearly, is moral support (I am still so grateful that my parents were able to go to my biopsy appt with me). The other reason is so that they can ask any questions you might have forgotten (and to take down answers you'll need). Besides, you'll most likely not be in any fit state to be alone that day. I'll be frank with you--my tongue stung a bit while my tumor was there. I was uninsured when my adventure started. There are some options. Is there any kind of low-cost health care system in your area? Your local health department might be able to help you. I started with the charity clinic in the town where I lived at the time; it was run by a Catholic hospital. From there I was sent to the local teaching hospital where I qualified for their charity care program. I took the liberty of looking up teaching hospitals in Nebraska and saw that there are two, both in Omaha. Would that be a difficult trip for you? JuliaThis message has been edited. Thanks for the reply. Would you recommend that I see the dentist first or go straight to the doctor? My tongue actually doesn't hurt. Really nothing hurts. It's just when I apply pressure to the bump. The tingling I experience is in the back of my mouth and throat. I've checked the symptoms for mouth cancer, and I have none of them except this stupid lump. At times over the past week it does feel as though I have something in my throat. I've stuck my hand down my throat numerous times (even got sick once) to see if I felt bumps. But no go. Thanks again for all your help
