Yet another Lump question - lump under chin

Hi, I'm afraid it's another lump question -
I have a smallish lump under my chin, circular, between a 1-1.5 cm diameter, slightly off-centre towards the left, but only slightly. It's slightly tender when I stretch my neck up or when I poke it. I can move it slightly with my fingers and it feels like hard tissue.
No other symptoms, everything else is fine.I'm an 17 year old female, with a fair bit of cancer in the family, which is why I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.

What should I do? Is it a "get to the doctor pronto" sort of thing, or a "keep an eye on it and see whether it does anything interesting" sort of thing or even a "don't be silly, everyone has that, I'd just never noticed it before" sort of thing?

Thank you for your help in advance,
SC x

Hello SC

It is unlikely to be a cancer but my advice is that it should not be ignored. You should arrange to see your doctor for his opinion and a diagnosis. Do let us know what the diagnosis is.

Best wishes

Thank you for your advice - I was going to wait a week or two to see if it went down, but do you think I should go sooner?

Thanks,
SC x

Arrange an appointment and get it diagnosed.

Just to let you know, I went to the doctor's, and she said that it was probably just an infection, but that if it didn't go in a month's time then to come back.

Thanks for your advice, I feel much happier now.

how is it feeling today? any smaller?
and you have no symptoms either right?
my daughter, soon to be two, has this lump under her chin as well. hard to see if it's tender because she can't tell me if it hurts. i have a dr's appt for her today but would appreciate feedback. she has no other symptoms either. i so fear the cancer thought. if it was something serious, wouldn't she have fevers, etc?
