Soft tissue growth on the gum

I'm in my early 50's. In the last 3 to 4 months or so, I had noticed a soft tissue growth appearing on the outside in the mid section of my left upper gum area. It is triangular in shape and measures about 3 mm at the base, 1 mm at the tip and 3 mm long. It is not painful when I am eating or taking a drink though it is tender to touch if I put my finger or my tongue to it. Also, it does not contain within it any pus either

If I remembered vaguely at one time while brushing my in a haste, I could have bruised the said gum area, with slight bleeding as a result, when the plastic ended tip of the toothbrush sort of abraded against the said gum area and ruptured the surface tissue. On this note, could this then lead to a possible infection whereby the soft tissue would form as a result of it (As a matter of fact, I have had bruised my gum area in similar ways quite a few times in the past but have never had the soft tissue growth problem). As such, I am worry that it might be something worse.

I would appreciate all your feedback including those from the experts in the respective field.

Thank you kindly.

Jim

Hello Jim

It is best to see your dentist for an opinion if it has not got better within three weeks of appearing to bother you. Toothbrush trauma should heal within this time.

Best wishes

Vinod

Dr. Joshi,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. I have indeed made an appointment already to see an oral surgeon in about two weeks time.

Note:
By the way, the polyp like growth is movable and it is of the same coloration as the gum except for one tiny spot which is of a darker pink and seemingly inflamed!
