Hi, My mum has had a tumour twice now in the space of 14 years. recently she noticed somethign on her gum, a ver sore area which she is exerting pressure on when eating due to the absence of teeth on the other side( they were removed in the previous treatmnet). obvioulsy we are worried with this red patch swelling.2 weeks ago she had the flu and took antibiotics. as a result this red patch/swelling also started to reduce. do you think it could just be a gum infection? This message has been edited. Hello sjr Often chewing down heavily onto the gum (through either hard food or opposing tooth contact) can make it sore. This will improve within two weeks if a soft diet is adopted and a conscious attempt made to avoid clenching. If unsure or it doesn't get better, ask to see your consultant who treated you at the hospital and say that you are worried that the cancer might have recurred so that you get seen urgently. They don't mind seeing you if you genuinely think there might be a problem. Hope that helps.
