Found a lump in my lower jaw earlier and have been reading through quite a few posts but they seen to be on the inside gum line!

My lump is around the size of a small pea and is located about 2cm below my gum line (facing the cheek) it is hard but movable?

I can only feel it through my cheek and its now quite sore (been fiddling) also its sort of below where i have a big filling if that makes a difference?

Just thought some one could give me a bit of info on possable causes etc.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi Mark...

You are likely wondering by now why no one has responded yet to your posting. Usually, when the questions are more "medical-based", members of this forum leave the post unanswered until Dr. Joshi (our site medical expert) can address it instead. Dr. J is great, but with all the online postings he has to monitor (plus see patients in "real life"), it's hard to respond 100% of the time. Now that I've brought your posting back to the top of the list by responding, Dr. Joshi will probably see it and answer. (You might also send another message with his name in the subject line directing his attention to your original posting. Just a suggestion.)

A call to your own doctor or dentist's office to describe the lump you have noticed could be the best course, especially if it does not seem to be going away. A dental exam will put your mind at ease. I'm not a medical person, but know there are lots of reasons for "lumps" other than cancer, so try not to worry excessively... but do have it checked out.

Sorry that your posting did not receive a response before today. Hoping all is well and that you will post another note after seeing a dentist so we'll know what you found out.

Good luck,

Melanie

Hello Mark

Sorry for not replying earlier - been busy (attending a conference in Prague and later a study group meeting in Budapest/Paris) last week.

If you can only feel this pea sized lump, about 2cm below the lower jaw gum line, through the cheek then it might be in the cheek itself! It is most likely to be a lymph node but please see your dentist or doctor about it for a definite explanation. Let us know what they say.

Best wishes
