Do I have throat cancer?Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I have had sore throat for the last 6 weeks, i went to see my GP several times, but it's still the same(antibiotics didnt work, blood tests didnt show anything)last week i saw ENT specialist, but he said it's nothing serious, only something seasonal and it will take several more weeks to get better, and told me to come back and see him in six weeks time. honestly i am very worried about it, i removed the tonsils last year, but never had this kind of sore throat before, it's in the back of my throat and i feel it's not only the infection, the pain could be in the muscles, along with that sometimes(not all the time) i feel uncomfortable in all over my body and have to take pain killers. breathing is fine, appetite is fine, no weight loss or change in my voice,no earache, but sometimes i feel burn(not very painful) in my stomache that goes away when i drink milk. is it the sign of throat cancer, i am very worried about it. thanks, zia

Good Afternoon Zia, You seem to have followed the correct procedure in seeing your doctor in the short term, and seeing the ENT specialist was the next logical step. You have to accept that these people know what they are talking about, the ENT man spends half his life peering down peoples throats and would be quick to recognise any signs of malignancy.Keep the next appointment,if you are really not satisfied you could ask for a second opinion but I think you would get the same answer as the first. The usual symptoms of throat cancer are a sore throat but more significantly temporary then semi permanent loss of voice.General body aches and pains are not normal symptoms and the burning you mention sounds very much like over acidity for which there are many over the counter medications,I take Gaviscon and it works very well,if milk works stick to it you will find it much cheaper. I think you can give up worrying about throat cancer,The ENT man would have spotted it.Let us know how you get on. Keep Smiling John.

Dear Zia, John has given you good advice. I differ with him on only one issue... I strongly encourage a second medical opinion (because another doctor might well say something different than the first ENT), particularly given the fact that you are experiencing great anxiety about this... NOT that I would suspect cancer. Rather, it's just that six weeks of suffering through sore throat is a bit long for anyone. I don't know a lot about allergies but, even if it's just that, I'd want some prescription or something to relieve the throat pain during the "seasonal" episode if it's going to be so long running. It's up to you... but I'd be calling another doctor and getting an appointment. Sore throats ain't no fun! Hope you find some relief soon. Melanie
