Hello guys and gals . . . new member with a question.

I have a small bump on the floor of my mouth, on the right side towards the front, that has been there for months. It's about 1/4 the size of a BB, and it's painless. The bump is slightly tinted red. I haven't had it checked out yet (that's one of my questions . . . do I go to a physicial or a dentist?), but I plan to ASAP.

A little bit of history . . . I'm a 28 yr. old male, smoke about 3/4 of a pack of cigarettes a day, drink occasionally, never been really sick or ill in my life. There's no history of cancer running in my family, minus for my mother who has had breast cancer and was sucessfully treated.

So my question is, can this be anything else than oral cancer? I get frightened when I do a search for anything medical-related on the web, and the answer is always the worst-case scenario! I'm just looking for some answers before I see the dentist . . . I don't want to drive myself crazy!

Thanks for your time!

A little more info . . .

It looks similar to Figure 15.1 in the """Examination Technique with Normal Findings and Structures Mistaken for Disease""" webpage that has been referenced on this board . . .

Hi ThePaul

In that location, it could also be an inflamed salivary gland duct opening (1.49). Please see you dentist about it.
:soapbox: stop the SMOKING RISK :banghead:

Will do! Thanks for the help.

(Also as a side, I'm starting to quit tomorrow . . . trying the inhaler method!)

Thanks again!
