Hello Dr. Joshi and everyone else. I have been reading these forums for a few days now and first I wanted to thank Dr. Joshi for taking the time out to answer our questions. I don't know how to thank you enough, just reading some of your responses sets me at ease.

I am writing this because I just want to be more sure I have figured out my problem. I read this post right here. Her issue sounded almost exactly the same as mine, except my """growth""" is left of my uvula. It is on a stem not a big base, and is about the size of a pencil eraser. It hangs down when I open wide but sometimes sticks to the roof of my mouth when I open up to look at it.

I have had this at least several months and never thought anything of it. Infact, I have had 2 dental appointments and my doctor never spoke of it so I just brushed it off.

After researching online I have throughly scared myself now and would like your view on it. I read you told Bonnie she had a pedunculated polyp. That seems what I have too, after I viewed pictures I was almost sure that is it. But googling only turns up pedunculated polyps in the colon and other places so I couldn't find much info on oral pedunculated polyp.

Ok I am rambling on now. I am going to set up an appointment very soon just so you know. Any help is appreciated as to what you think it may be and what causes these things?

Thanks doc. Smiler

I forgot to add:

I feel no pain from this, it is like its not even there. This is all very confusing.

Hello fean

It probably is a polyp, not a mouth cancer. They are usually painless. No known cause. Polyps are usually found in the nose or vocal chords. It is possible that it is a nasal polyp hanging over the soft palate area. The best thing for you to do is to get it removed by your ENT or Maxillofacial surgeon - that way you will know for sure what it is, and it won't bother you anymore.

Best wishes

Thank you doctor, I really appreciate your help.

It actaully hangs directly from the soft palate slightly left of the uvula. I just wasn't sure if thats what you meant by saying it could be a nasal polyp. It is about 1 cm long entirely.

Oh yeah, I set up a time with the ENT specialist. I feel better now after getting your opinion. Smiler Smiler Smiler

Hi fean

The edge of the soft palate is the junction area of the mouth's oral mucosa and the nose's nasal mucosa. Nothing to stop the oral mucosa giving rise to a polyp though! Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
