I've been out of radiation therapy for about a month and am curious as to how long it will be before my taste functions return. Some things just taste gross that I used to like. My treatment regimen was two chemotherapy sessions combined with 6 weeks of radiation therapy. The last week of radiation was two sessions per day.

Hi Bbo,

As Dr Joshi states it really is a matter of time and for me it was experimenting with different foods and drinks.

I remember in the early months I could not take tomato in any form as it stung my mouth and throat. Today I love spaghetti bolognas and tomatoes. One of the strange things recently is that I now prefer tea instead of coffee?

It gets better.

Good luck

Hi everyone!

Even though I didn't have rt, it took a while for me to get used to tasting again with only half the tastebuds from before (the remainder, alas, have stepped up to the extra duty quite nicely).

I was off coffee for quite a while pre- and post-op. Tea seemed to have a soothing mouthfeel compared to coffee. Coffee is pretty acidic.
