Should I worry - new non tender lump

Ten years ago, I had a harmless but large tumour removed from my cheek and neck that was from my Parotid Gland.

That's all gone of course. But in the last 3-4 weeks I have noticed a lump on the lower part of my gum. It does not hurt and it is pink like my gum. It's fairly firm and it does not hurt when I press it (unless I press hard).

I have also noticed my saliva production has increased, but I am think that may be down to anxiety.

This lump is about 2-3 cm long and protrudes about 5 mm which makes my lower cheek bulge slightly.

What could it be and should I trouble my doctor with it (I sort of know the answer to that already)?

Thank you - Greg

Hi Greg<br />Go the docs on Monday - you know what to do so stop procrastinating...... As a former sufferer of this area you can I think be demanding about getting a ENT consultant appointment within 2 weeks. My GP phoned the hospital as I left his room and got me an appointment just 9 days later.

You must check this out. Let us know. I want it to be harmless for you. We all have delayed at some point not quite believing we could be one of the statistics.
Good luck.

Thank you Pauline and Vickie.

Yes, I had already talked myself into going on Monday to my doctors, even if it is nothing to worry about, I of course do need to know. You are both so right about not waiting anymore.

I will update very soon and thank you all for your encouragement.

Greg

Saw the doctor this morning and he was concerned enough to urgently refer me to an Oral Surgeon. I should hear from that department very soon.

At least the ball is rolling to deal with this problem. It may be benign after all this worry anyway.

Sounding rather cowardly, I am frightened more when I read about everyone's cases here on this forum. I am amazed at how brave you all are.

Greg - don't be fooled.

Once diagnosed I'm pretty sure most of us were terrified. That feeling doesn't go away.

What's cowardly about being frightened, there'd be something wrong with you if you weren't worried/concerned/frightened.

Whatever the news please keep us posted

Greg we are not brave just realistic can't get away from the fact we got it so live with it. As Pikeman says we are all frightened when we get diagnosed. As pikeman also says that feeling doesn't go away, but we are all in this togeather so we help each other. If you read my diary about when I was diagnosed you will see you are not any more frightened than I was. As you say the outcome from you apointment might not be as bad as you think.
Keep us informed
Maurice
