30 Year old male recently noticed a large lump on gumline/hard palate. It seems to have appeared overnight. I am a smoker and was sometimes heavily chain smoking. I am quitting very very soon. This is freaking me out because most cancer forums describe "any abnormal bump" as one of the symptoms. Further, though it could be psychological but I swear I feel something weird with my throat. No difficulty swallowing, pain, hoarsnsess, or anything like that.. Just a sort of internal awareness of every sensation in my throat with a leaning towards minorly sore / closing passages.

I have taken a couple of pictures not the best quality but may help.

Hi worriedsmoker.
Even though you may want to put off seeking professional advice with this, you should get looked at right away. Whether it's something or nothing, the quicker you know the better. If it's something you can get it treated and if it's nothing you can stop worrying.
Trying to get a diagnosis from a (not very good) photo isn't the way to do it. Let us know how it goes. Hagg.

I took the plunge under the bright lights this afternoon with a doctor that had more credentials than paint on his walls. And his quote "I dont know what that is, did you burn yourself or eat some crunchy foods? Come back in a week but its not cancer".. how about a cleaning?

Im still worried!! Basically because of the two major symptoms.

"A lump or growth in the mouth that doesnt heal after 2-3 weeks" (its been about 18 days)

and

"Soreness in the throat, the feeling like something is caught in the throat". I kindof feel a bit sore throat but this could be normal for me as a smoker.

The dentist did take x-rays and poked and prodded at it but didnt know what it was. Could he be wrong? Would the x-ray show something? Im scared to death!

Did you get the results of the xrays. Get back and insist on a biopsy.
