Lump on oropharynx - How long do you watch before biopsy?

Monday I noticed a lump behind my uvula. It is whitish and hard irregular in shape and about the size of a nickel. I saw my GP on Friday and had a chest xray done. I went to see him again today for him to look at this lump. He told me that he wanted to do a CT because my xray had shown a nodule that was not there last year. He put me on antibiotics and said that he would send me to see an ENT if the lump did not improve in 3 weeks. I originally went to see him with complaints of dysphagia and pain between my shoulder blades.

Is a 3 week wait a good idea? I mean obviously if the CT shows something things will change, or if the lump goes away during antibiotic therapy sure. But if not should I let this lump sit for that long?

I have only smoked many moons ago when I was 17 very briefly. The alcohol history is the same. I am now 41. However, I have a condition which causes me to vomit often and I wonder if stomach acids can work the same as alcohol and the cigarettes.

Thanks,

~V
