My Dad was diagnosed with a recurrence of Laryngeal Cancer in Jan 2006 and had a Laryngectomy in Feb 2006. In July 2006 further recurrences were found in the left tonsil and bottom of them tongue. He was told that there was no further treatment that could be offered in August. In september he had a bleed that almost killed him, the doctors suspect it was an artery that was attacked by the tumour. This stopped after about 12 hours but he had to be given a blood transfusion as he lost around 3-4 litres of blood. He has been told he is potentially sitting on a ticking bomb and that this artery is likely to bleed again and would prove fatal if it did. He has since this date had to be admitted to hospital to have a PEG as he is finding it difficult to swallow, and the amount of pain relief he is having to be given is also continually on the increase. It is horrible to see him suffering, and It's compounded by the fact I am really the only one he has got. I just wanted to know that if anyone knew how long these kind of things lasted for because it is painful enough now watching his suffering and is getting harder every day. When he was told it was terminal all the consultant would say was months. f anyone has any advice it would be gratefully recieved

Hello Ian, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's suffering. He has been through a lot in such a short time and having to see him in constant pain will be very difficult for you to cope with. I can't answer your question - no-one knows 'how long' - just keep on doing what you are already doing; loving and caring and telling him how much he means to you. We are here to support you in any way we can. Brenda.
